ABOUT
The premiere edition of The Immigrant Artist Biennial (TIAB) 2020: Here, Together! was conceptualized around the theme of otherness and separation and exhibited immigrant artists, based in US, who work in a variety of mediums. Confronting a national rhetoric of exclusion, nationalism, and discrimination, Here, Together! called for urgent unity, visibility, and criticality, by facilitating a necessary platform of cultural exchange. Curated by the Founding Director, Katya Grokhovsky, the biennial presented over 60 artists and took place in NYC and online, including Brooklyn Museum, EFA Project Space, Greenwood Cemetery and an exhibition website. Interrupted and subsequently, restructured by COVID-19 pandemic, the inaugural edition took a hybrid format, alternating between physical and digital sites, from March until December 2020. The biennial is accompanied by two exhibition catalogues.
